Electroliquid Aggregation+ Unreal model week 2+ filefront test

Electroliquid Aggregation
We’ve only got one Earth, so we have to protect it in order to conserve for a better future.

Jane Goodall
“Given the kind of lifestyle that the average person in Hong Kong or New York leads today, we’ll need four new planets to support,” says Goodall. “But we don’t have four planets, do we? We’ve only got this one. So we can’t go on like this.”

Florence Nightingale
"I use the word nursing for want of a better. It has been limited to signify little more than the administration of medicines and the application of poultices. It ought to signify the proper use of fresh air, light, warmth, cleanliness, quiet, and the proper selection and
administration of diet — all at the least expense of vital power to the patient."

Unreal Model
This is the model that I developed from. Basically the space is divided into 2 parts, the first is the lab for Florence, which is a regular shape linking to a smaller sized space in the middle, which shows the connections and caring of the injured people. The smaller part of space in Florence's concept has another meaning for Jane's lab. This time the smaller part represents the 3rd world countries, where the resources are exploited, and are transfered to the relatively large lab space, which shows that the unfairness and contrast between the first world and third world countries.

The outside space of the model.

models on Ued

This model is inspired by Jane Goodall. She's very concerned about the Earth, where it is being consumed and exploited. Therefore this model is complex and interlocked, which shows that humans and the environment is interdependent, which one cannot survive without another.

This model is to describe to quote made by Florence Nightingale. The concept of this model is that a bigger sized part is connected to a smaller one, which shows the caring of the needy and injured people.

Animations for final model +Google Warehouse

This is the upper studio of the whole model.I don't know why the video is 12sec......I tried a few times to change it to a 10sec video but sketchup didn't let me to do so.....the last 2sec is a still pic from the last frame, so please don't mind. This animation is about cycle, so I did the animation like a loop and in the end, it loops back to the first frame. Check put the description I made when I was explaining my concept.

This is the lower studio of the model.
I did this animation with the first few seconds like you were walking down the stairs, but then in the end it suddenly flies to the other end of the studio, so that it creates a 'weird' feel.

This is a animation of the middle space.
It moves from the upper stairs to the middle space to show the transition of the two studios.

Textures for final model

I forgot to put the description of the textures in my last post, so I put it here as an explanation.
Another reason is that I don't know why theres a picture missing and it doesn't let me re-upload to that post, so I'll put it here again.
This is the section of the whole model that was disappeared.

____________________________Upper___________________________________

This is a texture of the word describing 'crunchy'.
It is to represent that life could be fragile and from this texture, it suits Ricky's works as he makes a lot of sculptures of bones and skeleton.

This texture is 'glow', where I used it as a texture for the glazing. This texture is used because I think although Ricky's work are often about the dead, which is dark, his works also has some energy in it, such as 'Younger than Yesterday' I chose. This is like a strong beam of light shining inside a dark room, and everything starts to glow.

_____________________________Middle__________________________________

This texture was inspired by the word 'soft', where I use a lot of slowly drawn soft lines to create.

I want to talk about this texture together with the following one, 'strong'.
Because the works of Ricky and Piccinini are quite opposite, I used a lot of contrasting elements in the model. This feminine 'soft' contrasts with the masculine 'strong' to show that contrasting materials could be used together.

The 'strong' I used. The pattern is like one same shape that locks together firmly and it can't be easily broken.

This 'gradient' is to represent the transition of one place to another, from the upper studio to the lower studio.

______________________________Lower_________________________________

This is a texture that describes 'toxic'. I put this texture is not because I think her works are toxic, but the message she was trying to convey. Her work I chose is talking about genetic modification, where she uses a disturbing creature to show the situation. Although she was neutral in this debate, I was annoyed by the transhuman and I used this texture to show the problem of the modification.

The texture was inspired by the word 'wavy', which shows her feminine works of birth, packs and families.

Final Model

I finally finish my model!! Thanks to Brad and the others who gave me advice, I did quite a few corrections, especially about the textures and the upper stairs, so I want to spend some time explaining the whole concept in the post. It's quite long, so be patient and keep reading:)

This is the overall view of the model. The upper studio is a noun for Ricky Swallows, 'CYCLE', and the lower studio is a adjective for Patricia Piccinini, ‘WEIRD'.

The section view of the whole model. The model is quite big and my screen won't fit, so I captured the close up ones and put them on below.

The close up view of the upper studio.
I first draw the sketches for this studio with a lot of curves, but I think it is not interesting enough and is too literal, so I try finding ways that can express cycle with straight lines. Then I came up with this idea-using a loop using strong lines, but still convey this idea!
The studio is mainly made of concrete, with some glazing. The colours are quite dark so that when sun shines in, it will have a better contrast.

This model is trying to express the cycle of life (I use this instead of life cycle is because the latter sound like the cycle of an object, not human).
The whole concept is that there is a area for different stages of life. I first start with the toddler stage, where the ground is flat and quite spacious. This is to express how the parents cares about their children so they most probably grow up in a safe space.

Then the spaces goes to an opening that leads to the second floor. This is to show the age of teenagers where the sharp and straight opening expresses the rapid growth of adolescence. There's a reason why I didn't put my stairs here is because the aging process is irreversible so if I put the stairs there, it makes that you can go back to previous stages. This is the same for another end on the other side.

After the
adolescence stage is the adult stage. The space is significantly smaller than the lower floor, and the walls are also narrower. This design is to represent the problems and stress that adults face in the society.

The view of the outside. There's a hole made when I was doing this design, so I made use of it so people can come out and take a rest.

The last part of the studio is the mid-age and the elders. The path is extremely irregular, so that it shows how the old feels when their body starts to malfunction and cannot walk properly.
(If you paid your attention enough, I put a model of a person in different ages in each part to clearly show the different stages.)

The end of this part is another opening where it leads back to the beginning. The drop in the opening represents the death of a person.

I made a tunnel her that lets Ricky put his works there. It could be accessed from the place where you can go out in the adult stage. It is made of glass so people can examine the work from different angles.

Time for the stairs. The stairs is to represent cycle, so I made my stairs like a loop, where they meets from two ends. This time I used a more feminine curve to make a contrast with the strong studio.

The stairs are mainly made out of steel, and I also want to show a cycle on the steps, so I made the inner part in glass, so people can see the cycle again.

I first want to make the stairs in a circle, but it's too big to put in the studio. Therefore I twisted the the arc a bit and it looks a lot better! I made it looks like a thread of DNA, where it also could represent human.

Then the stairs leads to the middle floor. The main concept of this space is transition, where it could be seen from linking a part of each studio together.

At last, the lower studio. I said this a lot of time, but I still have to explain it again. I first drew the sketch of this studio in a lot of spheres to represent the feminine feature of Piccinini's works, but then I modified it to have a better relationship with the upper sections. This actually enhances the representation of the studio as the work I chose for Piccinini is a sculpture of a family of transhumans, where now the half spheres adds the 'weird' feeling.

The stairs going down is made like swings, which has a unstable appearance. But actually the ropes are made from steel where it is firm and stable. This makes people have a contrast feeling from the frst time seeing the stairs and after stepping on the stairs.

The stairs are also made with uneven hight and angles so that the unstable feeling is further enhanced.

The poles could also be a place to get hold of when going down the stairs. The steps are made out of used wood panels so they won't be wasted, and the unevenness of the stairs could also add details of the word 'weird'.
The stairs are made in a childish colour so it contrasts with the white walls. It also shows the 'family' theme in Piccinini's sculpture.

I used a white colour , where it is inspired from most of her works on the theme of genetic modification. The colour is to show the cleanliness that was inspired from science laboratories.

Individual Studies week 3- model

I'm not good at decorating, so this is only some paste of the textures I create. It will DEFINITELY change in the end. I promise.

I also remade the lower studio again because I so like the old one much. I also change the style of the stairs.

I made the stairs in a spiral form, but also maintaining the 'weird' effect.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Paccinini made this sculpture, The Young Family in 2002. She didn't actually made this by herself, but she drew the sketch and let another artist, Sam Jinks to produce the sketch in 3D form. In this artwork Paccinini uses a transhuman-half human, half animal to show that the ethic issues brought by genetic modification.

This sculpture is made from silicon, acrylic, human hair, leather and timer, where the use of silicon provides great detail and texture of the sculpture. Although it is not a total human form, there are some human features such as the eye and eyebrows, made of actual human hair, which could be easily spotted.

Ricky Swallow's works always shows his great carving skills. In this art piece 'Younger than Yesterday', he uses a block of wood and carve it into a highly detailed, extremely realistic skull. You can see that some parts of the sculpture is very hard to obtain realistic forms, such as making the teeth look like it's grown on the skull, not joined by it.
The barnacles grown on the skull shows that even when one dies and decays, it still could lead to the birth and growth of other organisms, where that's also why I chose CYCLE as the word for the studio-the cycle of life.
