Great tutorials for Ued

http://udn.epicgames.com/Two/StaticMeshesTutorial.html#Static%20Mesh%20Properties

http://udn.epicgames.com/Two/MoversTutorial.html

both from epic games(developer of Unreal), explaining what functions in the properties do! Useful for making elevators that are more 'intelligent' (e.g. won't go back to the original state when leaving the elevator, leaving you no choice but jumping down to die= =)
Have a look!!

36 Textures

First elevator

This is my first sketch elevator, which I didn't like it.

The shape of it did not corporate with the space besides it, making it too stand out .
Another thing is the texture. I still cant figure out how to resize the textures in a static mesh, and now the texture in the elevator was so small that u can't see it unit you zoom it really close.

18 Perspective Sketches+ model 1

=============================================================

This is the sketch I made for the Unreal model.
I used the word PROMOTION to express that you need a lot of hard work in order to get to the top place.

The model is made with 3 parts, that is the biggest base shape then the vertical shape and the transparent upper space.
The main theme of the model is the progression from the lower space to the upper one. which shows the feeling of being promoted.

Mashup Text

Steve Job co-founded Apple in garbage dumps, who is desperate for scrap paper, is back running his first love. Jobs is respectful of other trends, and it's important to have them, otherwise the boring company will never be the same. Take it too from the Women in China with growing power, who gave him a moment of reflection in his life, where the worst thing that you can do is to keep going in different directions, especially if you don’t really feel and believe in them.”

The adopted son of working-class parents, Jobs became a millionaire by age 25, an American icon by age 30 and corporate history the same year, all thanks to Apple.

"I wouldn't be honest if some days I didn't question whether I made the right decision in running a paper collection company," he says. “Every company has to go through a down period, but I believe life is an intelligent thing--that things aren't random. I can make a mess but I can fix it also."

EX2- Final model

Electroliquid Aggregation
We’ve only got one Earth, so we have to protect it in order to conserve for a better future.

This outer space is the lab for Jane Goodall, where the main concept of this space is the overconsumption of the first world countries.

The meeting space is a relative small space, which is hidden in the shadows of the lab and shows how resources in the third world countries are exploited and the neglection of those countries.

The lab behind the wall is made for Florence Nightingale, where the lab space is linked to the meeting space so that the idea of caring for the needy(third world countries) is shown.

====================================================================
Explanation of my concepts of the model.

I used a dim yellowish colour for the outer space, because this creates a late afternoon feeling, where the shadows of Jane's lab is projected onto the meeting space, which shows the neglect ion of the third world countries. The dim sunlight also contrasts the bright lights on the exterior, which shows the overconsumption of energy, where people use lights needlessly when sunlight is still sufficient .

I used the three colours that are mainly used for neon lights to represent the first world countries, because I (was taught to) don't like literal designs.On the left is the ramp from Jane's lab to the meeting space, where I'll explain that later.

These two images shows the interior of Jane's lab. I used a rather green pallet to show how she acts to conserve the environment. The lights inside are dimmer than the outside, which shows the contrast between the heavy resource consumers and herself.
There are also some 'poles' in the lab space, which resembles the vines in the jungle, but also show how she tried to teach the first world countries that the environment and human are linked together.

Another side of the studio. I used a limited number of plants to show how 'ungreen' the first world countries were, also to note the desertification occupying in such countries.

This images shows the ramp connecting from Jane's lab to the meeting space.
The ramp is made from a simple rectangle plane, but there are parts of the plane (near the meeting space-third world countries) being cut off and placed near Jane's lab(the first world). This shows the unfairness of how the first world countries exploits not only their own resource, but also the third world countries. I didn't align the planes that are moved, so it could be obvious to spot. Moreover, the ramp doesn't have rail because I want to represent that this situation of exploiting other's resources is a dangerous action.

Other than the shadows, I used a rusty texture to enhance the contrast between the first and third world countries.
The space was a regular block, which was heavily subtracted to show how the resources are exploited for those countries.
The same shape also resembles the injured people that is in need to heal, so the meeting space has as a double meaning for the two lab space.

The ramp from the meeting space to Florence's lab is covered by a shelter, which shows the protection by caring.

The main concept of Florence's quote was how the environment could enhance the healing of the injured, so I tried to add a lot of natural light to the model, where sunlight has a warm and cozy feeling and make people feel better.

The big windows also creates a space with good air ventilation, which is an important element Florence mentions in her quote.

The textures used are mainly white, which has the cleanliness required by Florence.
The lights are also not to be made too bright to match with her quote.

The yellow twilight pallet also creates a soft and gentleness, which resembles Florence's tenderness of the caring of injured during the war, which has a great contrast with the masculine soldiers during that period of time.

==================Textures used=========================
Light.

Medium. I combined the two medium textures of the dots to create a more random pattern.

I used four dark textures in my environment, where mostly used inside Jane's lab where the dark colour has a sharp contrast with the bright lighting used.

The textures images are posted on Monday after the submission time, but the other I managed to upload them on Sunday.
